While capitalism is not inherently a negative thing, the current state of governement and business has come to a very unhealthy system where choices are becoming fewer and fewer. Advertisers have knowledge of suggestion a power one step away from mind control. Not only are thousands of the same items sent of the production line every year, less and less people are aware of how to create their own clothes. It is causing the population to be relient on the industries in order to ensure their success. Large numbers of people flock to stores for the newset thing that the T.V. or radio told them was good to buy. Instead of dishing out all of your hard earned cash, why not spend only a little and do it yourself.

The DIY ideals are not the trends that were inspired by them, nor is it rebellion which is one of many messages that can be communicated. DIY allows for a direct message to be given to all who lay eyes upon it. At the same time it can be used as a means of fashion/decoration and left purposely blank of any kind of message. Doing something on your own is a stand for independence, self realization, self sufficiency, strength and intention. If one day our economy and industry collapses it's better to be prepare to do as much as possibly on your own.

There is a myriad of benifits to making your own clothing/gear/etc. Aside from being Custom your creation contains the energy of your intent. It's nice to not rely on another to make decision. A lot of people in the world feel powerless, relying on teachers, religious figures, and commercials to make decisions for them. No matter how cheesy it is to say take the power back but it's a message more people should heed. Doing and making things yourself gives you full creative control free of censorship.
